Verona, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, incorporates artistic elements of the highest quality testifying over 2.000 years of Italian history. After a breathtaking panoramic view of the city from ‘Torricelle’, the hills that overlook Verona - a perfect point for some unforgettable pictures - you will have the opportunity to enjoy a walking tour of Verona taking in its many highlights such as Castelvecchio, the San Zeno Church (famous for having been the place of the marriage of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet), the Arche Scaligere (an elegant gothic mausoleum), the Shakespearian Home of Juliet and, of course, the Roman Amphitheatre known as the Arena, which is internationally famous for the large-scale Opera performances given there. It is one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind even if built in AD 30 - when it hosted more than 30,000 spectators for the “Ludi” (shows and games).
Then you’ll have the choice to explore an enchanting natural wonder such as the Lake of Garda: delicious Mediterranean appendix famous throughout the world for the picturesque towns which dot the coast. In particular, your destination will be the enchanting Sirmione, the long and narrow strip of land extending out into the Garda Lake. Valerius Catullus, Giosuè Carducci, Ezra Pound, and James Joyce extolled its beauty. Don’t miss to take a sight to the wonderful Scaliger Castle, built in the 15th century by the Venice Republic upon the ruins of a Roman fortress (which includes a rare example of medieval port fortification) and the so-called Grotte di Catullo, the most striking example of a Roman private edifice in northern Italy. The town is also famous for its thermal springs.
