Get the choice to discover an enchanting natural paradise such as the Franciacorta wine district, whose territory of rolling hills, shaped by glacial action, extends from the foothills of Alps to the shores of Lake Iseo and is ideal for the cultivation of grapes and winemaking. The name “Franciacorta” has its roots in the Middle Ages, when these lands were entrusted to small community of Benedictine monks that started the cultivation of vineyards producing the first “forefather” of a sparkling wine called “biting”, in the 13th century, four hundred years before Champagne! On the slopes of Mt. Orphan, a jewel in a wonderful treasure, you can find Castello Bonomi, the only Château in the Franciacorta area. This estate takes its name from the original Art Nouveau building designed by the architect Antonio Tagliaferri. The ancient cellars have been repaired, so that Castello Bonomi has now 1500 m2 of cellars where the wines, refined in French oak barriques, reach an annual production of 120.000 bottles: 70.000 Franciacorta Docg Brut, and the remaining bottles are Millesimato, Satèn, Curtefranca, Cordelio, Solicano and Vespero, which you may taste after the guided visit of the estate.
Then you’ll have the choice to explore another enchanting natural wonder such as the Lake of Garda: delicious Mediterranean appendix famous throughout the world for the picturesque towns which dot the coast. In particular, your destination will be the enchanting Sirmione, the long and narrow strip of land extending out into the Garda Lake. Valerius Catullus, Giosuè Carducci, Ezra Pound, and James Joyce extolled its beauty. Don’t miss to take a sight to the wonderful Scaliger Castle, built in the 15th century by the Venice Republic upon the ruins of a Roman fortress (which includes a rare example of medieval port fortification) and the so-called Grotte di Catullo, the most striking example of a Roman private edifice in northern Italy. The town is also famous for its thermal springs.
